Brum Against Hate
Brum Against Hate is a protest group based in Birmingham, focused on combating rising levels of homophobia and hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community in the city. The group was established by Saima Razzaq, Salman Mirza, and Adam Yosef, all from Muslim backgrounds, in response to the increasing number of hate crimes in Birmingham's Gay Village. They are committed to shifting the narrative around homosexuality from mere tolerance to acceptance and actively engaging in dialogue about LGBTQ+ issues.
The group aims to hold power to account and forge strong partnerships between faith organizations and the LGBTQ+ community. One of their key strategies is to create a pledge for faith, civic, and community leaders, promoting an anti-homophobic stance and proactive support for the LGBTQ+ community. This pledge is intended to be presented to various city leaders, including councillors, MPs, and faith leaders, to foster a more inclusive and accepting environment in Birmingham.
Brum Against Hate's efforts include working closely with Birmingham City Council and advocating for strategic change and legacy-building initiatives that go beyond merely reacting to attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.
